Skin in the Game within MicroCap Companies
Interview with Whit Huguley, Portfolio Manager at River Oaks Capital
After a short hiatus, we are back with a great interview with Whit Huguley, CFA, the Portfolio Manager at River Oaks Capital. Whit is a microcap specialist who has been running this portfolio full time since early 2020. Whit puts together one of the most comprehensive quarterly letters I have ever seen—in many cases discussing all the companies in his portfolio. In this wide ranging conversation, we covered:·
-Why he first became interested in microcaps;
-The checklist he uses to evaluate stocks;
-His rationale for investing in small banks and financials;
-Why he places so much value on traveling to meet with companies; and
-How he approaches the topic of when his companies will eventually get valued properly.
You can find the interview here:
Whit believes that microcap is a space where active managers can consistently beat the index. But, as he discusses in this clip, Whit recognizes that concentrating in the wonderful companies in the space is required to be able to beat the index.
We have a bunch of wonderful interviews in backlog that we will be releasing over the next couple of months. So please stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Ben Claremon
